Tabooo (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the Tabooo dating application and website (tabooo.app). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our service.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account Data: Email address, password (hashed), display name, date of birth, gender, and relationship preferences.
- Profile Data: Photos, bio, city, country, and answers to compatibility questions (including those marked as “taboo”).
- Couples Data: Journal entries, goal progress, quiz answers, and partner interaction data when using Couples Mode.
- Communication Data: Messages sent through our chat system.
- Payment Data: Payment information is processed by Stripe; we store only subscription status and transaction references.
- Verification Data: Identity verification photos (processed and not permanently stored after verification).
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Location Data: City and country (required for the waitlist system), and GPS coordinates (optional, for distance-based matching).
- Usage Data: Last active timestamp, login frequency, and feature usage patterns.
- Device Data: Browser type, operating system, and push notification tokens.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account
- To compute compatibility scores and provide matches
- To enable the city-gated pre-launch waitlist system
- To facilitate real-time chat between matched users
- To provide Couples Mode features (daily questions, weekly quizzes, goals, journal)
- To process payments and manage subscriptions
- To send notifications (email, push) about matches, messages, and region launches
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and policy violations
- To improve our service and develop new features
4. Matching & Compatibility
Our matching algorithm computes compatibility scores based on your answers to profile questions. Answers marked as “dealbreakers” result in zero compatibility with mismatched users. Your personality badge is derived from your answer patterns and influences content recommendations in Couples Mode.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:
- Other Users: Your profile information, photos, and non-vault answers are visible to matched users. Vault answers require mutual consent.
- Service Providers: Stripe (payments), email delivery services, and hosting providers.
- Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, or to protect safety.
6. Ghost Mode
When Ghost Mode is enabled, your profile is hidden from the feed and search results. Other users can request a “reveal” — your profile becomes visible to them only if you mutually agree.
7. Data Retention & Deletion
- Account data is retained until you delete your account.
- Messages are retained for the duration of the conversation.
- Couples Mode data (journal, goals, quizzes) can be erased via the Relationship History feature after a relationship ends.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings, which removes all your data.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Object to or restrict processing
- Data portability
- Withdraw consent at any time

9. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), hashed passwords (bcrypt), JWT authentication, and parameterized database queries to prevent injection attacks.
10. Children's Privacy
Tabooo is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we discover such data, we will delete it promptly.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notification.
